Notes: Enfield Town Ladies won a tough but well contested local derby against Tottenham Hotspur at Home on Wednesday night as the rain held off for a short while. A Beth Lovell penalty, A Claire Gooch header put Enfield two goals up at the break and after Jenna Schillaci had pulled one backs for Spurs it was Bianca Baptiste who completed the scoring. Enfield Manager John Abbott said "It was a great team performance and we fully deserved our victory. It's a big commitment to play midweek but days like this make it all worthwhile." Match Report
By Michael Bunyan.

Enfield Town Ladies won a tough but well contested local derby against Tottenham Hotspur at Home on Wednesday night as the rain held off for a short while. It's a big commitment to play midweek but days like this make it all worthwhile." Enfield remain in 4th place in the table.

Enfield Town almost took an early lead as the match started in heavy rain as Emma Thomas got behind the visiting defence and crossed towards Bianca Baptiste but Nichola Cable got to it first and it looked to be heading into her own net only for Ebony Cabey-Gooden to pull off a great save. Emma Kayser put in a teasing cross that could have caused trouble but a team mate had strayed off side as Spurs tried to make a breakthrough. Baptiste received a poor goal kick from Cabey-Gooden and raced forward where Cabey-Gooden made up for her error with a good save and then got lucky as Baptiste picked up the loose ball and hit the post with her follow up shot. Thomas was fouled out side the area and from a well worked free kick it was Kerrie Marlborough who fired narrowly wide.

The rain had now stopped but the action continued and Cabey-Gooden was forced to punch a Thomas Free kick away under pressure a couple of Enfield players. Melanie Berry laid a pass back to Vanessa Storey who fired wide through a host of players. Thomas again made the line only for a defender to again cut out the cross, this time without troubling Cabey-Gooden. Baptiste attacked down the left and played the ball inside to Robyn Downie who also passed inside to Thomas who was fouled as she entered the area and although she kept upright and play on the chance had gone and referee Chris Turner pulled the play back and awarded a penalty. Beth Lovell stepped up and scored from the spot. 1-0 (30 min)

A pass over the top was chased down by Baptiste and Downie but Kirsten Thomson did very well to get between them and clear. Downie was shoved over outside the area but the official waved play on as Leanne Mabey fired the loose ball wide. Kayser played in a diagonal ball but Storey could only help it on into the hands of Enfield's Jo Ayre. Berry looked to have a clear sight of goal but hesitated allowing Claire Gooch to get in a great last ditch tackle. With just a minute of the first half left Enfield had a corner kick which was taken by Rebecca Laporte and met on the run by a Gooch header giving Cabey-Gooden no chance. 2-0 (44 min)

In the opening minute of the second period Jenna Schillaci had a great opportunity but delayed too long and Gooch again got in a tackle to snuff out the chance. Kayser slid in a pass for Berry who headed for goal but once again Gooch got her timing spot on and won the ball in a good challenge. Mabey won the ball in midfield and after beating a couple of attempted tackles she picked out Downie who shot straight at Cabey-Gooden. When the ball was chipped forward by a Spurs player, Gooch and Berry chased it with Ayre coming out from her area and blocking it with the ball going back to Berry who lined up a shot as Ayre got back into goal but the shot was wide as Marlborough got back to challenge. Ryah Vyse shot through a crowd of players but Ayre didn't even have to move to field it easily. The ball was played across the Spurs area into the path of Thomas and her first time shot was brilliantly saved by Cabey-Gooden. Enfield failed to clear their area properly from a Spurs corner and Jenna Schillaci sent a looping shot over Ayre and it dropped inside the far post to half the deficit. 2-1 (71 min)

From the restart Enfield went forward and before Spurs even draw breath Baptiste controlled a ball that had been lifted over the Spurs defence and shot wide of the onrushing Cabey-Gooden and inside the post. 3-1 (72 min)

Thomas almost caught Cabey-Gooden out with a shot from a tight angle but the keeper held on high above her head. A quick free kick saw Berry race into the Enfield area before she shot over the bar. Enfield Substitute Fran Boggi won a header against much taller players and as it dropped between Marlborough and Baptiste a defender stuck out a foot to concede a corner and when the corner was cleared Marlborough stayed up and received the ball which she laid back to Thomas whose shot thumped against the post and away in the last meaningful action of the game.

Enfield Town M.O.M. was too hard to decide with outstanding performances all over the pitch and was awarded to the whole team for their efforts.
